According to John McClain the Houston Texans have signed five players to future contracts.

All five will be in camp and the newest name on the list is tight end Jake Byrne who is a 6-4 260 lbs. tight end from Wisconsin  who went undrafted. He has the build as a blocking tight end which the Texans desperately need so it will be interesting to see if he has a legitimate shot to make the team in 2013.

Case Keenum, Nick Mondek, Jeff Maehl and Keith Browner were all with the team in camp and this is the start of the shaping of the 2013 Texans roster.

Quick Player Notes

Case Keenum 6-1, 209 lbs.- Undrafted quarterback from University of Houston. Will have a chance to become the third string quarterback or possibly spend another season on the practice squad.

Nick Mondek 6-5, 303 lbs.- The only Texans draft pick not to make the roster, but was brought back after being released in the final cuts of preseason. Will be competing for a roster spot at one of the offensive tackle spots.

Jeff Maehl 6-0, 185 lbs.- Forced into action his rookie season in 2011, one of the favorites of the coaching staff Maehl will have a legitimate shot to make the final 53 in 2013.

Keith Browner 6-4, 276 lbs.- A camp invitee he will try to provide depth at the defensive end position. Released during the preseason he was another player brought back for the practice squad during the season.
